A Migraine is an extreme headache that is often described as a severe throbbing or a pulsing sensation, sometimes in one area of the head but can also be in multiple areas at once.
Commonly Used Methods of Relief
For head pain caused by pressure or tight muscles
- Use a heating pad, hot pack or hot compress on the source of pain, the heat will relax muscles, make you feel more comfortable and limber, and will increase blood flow which promotes healing (increased blood flow can cause more pain in some people, use with caution – ice is a preferred method)
- Release tight muscles and tension with a slight massage or acupressure using a muscle pain oil like my Releasing Tension Body Oil or a simple blend of 2 tbsp coconut oil and 6-12 drops of peppermint or lavender essential oil.
- Use an ice pack or cold compress on the area where you are experiencing pain, the cold will help to numb the pain by slowing the nerves response to stimuli. (ex. apply ice to forehead when forehead is throbbing)
- Use an ice pack or cold compress on the source of the pain, the cold will reduce inflammation and tension in muscles. (ex. apply ice to the base of the neck when experiencing pressure in the head)
